Highlights of Performance during the month of July 2015
National Award Competition
The final evaluation round of the National Award Competition for Students of Civil / Structural
Engineering (15th year) took place at Kolkata during 23-24 September 2015. All 14 finalist teams (4
each from south and west zone and 3 each from north and east zone) participated during the final
evaluation. Shri Malay Mukherjee, Eminent Steel Expert was Chief Guest during the inaugural
function. Shri Sajjan Jindal, CMD, JSW Steel Limited and President-INSDAG was the Guest of Honour
during the Award & Closing ceremony and gave away the prizes. First Prize was won by a team
from IIT, Varanasi, second prizes were won by teams of Coimbatore Institute of Technology,
Coimbatore and IIT, Madras and third prizes were won by teams of SVNIT, Surat and IIT, Kharagpur.
Visit of Shri Sunil Barthwal
Shri Sunil Barthwal, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel visited INSDAG office and interacted with
all employees on September 10, 2015. Shri Barthwal insisted on close coordination with various
Govt departments for promotion of steel based infrastructures. He also advised INSDAG to
showcase models of steel based toilets in the forthcoming IITF Exhibition 2015 at Pragati Maidan,
New Delhi in November 2015.
Recent Trends in usages of Structural Steel ...
INSDAG organised an evening workshop on "Recent Trends in usages of Structural Steel and Stainless
Steel in Architecture, Building & Construction - A Make in India Initiative" in association with Indian
Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) on September 01 2015 in Kolkata. The programme
was attended by good number of Architects, Designers, Consultants & research scholars from the
Innovative Technologies for Clean, Green ....
Director General, INSDAG participated in the International Seminar on "Innovative Technologies for
Clean, Green and Automated Steel Plants" organised jointly by Steeltech and NIT, Durgapur at
Kolkata on September 11, 2015 and took part in the panel discussion on Strategies for Survival of
Indian Steel Industry.
Indian Steel Industry - Is it in a Crossroad?
INSDAG organised one expert talk by Dr S K Gupta, an eminent steel expert on "Indian Steel
Industry - Is it in a Crossroad?" at Tata Centre on September 14, 2015. The talk was attended by
about 100 professionals from Industry and Academia.
INSDAG training programme
INSDAG organised 2 nos training programme for final year Civil Engineering students on Industry
Needs and Basics of Steel Applications. The first program was organised jointly with Narula
Institute of Technology, Agarpara, WB during 28-29-30 September 2015 and second one at Camellia
Institute of Technology, Madhyamgram, WB during 30 September to 01 October 2015. Both the
programmes have about 75 studentsâ€™ participation. During the first two days training was imparted
by classroom lectures by faculties from INSDAG and Industry and last day students were taken to
steel based project sites. The training course on Steel in Construction has been rated very useful by
Presentation on Usage of Reinforcement bars
INSDAG participated and made a presentation on Usage of Reinforcement bars for durable
construction practices in the seminar on Ready to Use Steel in Construction organised by Civil
Engineering Division of IE(I), Kolkata in association with Tata Steel Ltd on September 25, 2015. DGINSDAG
also addressed the seminar as a Guest of Honour.
Behaviour of Steel Structures in Seismic Conditions
INSDAG participated and presented on Behaviour of Steel Structures in Seismic Conditions in the
seminar organised by M/s Everest Industries Limited to launch their technical manual on Pre-
Engineered Buildings at Mumbai on September 11, 2015.
MTD 4 meeting of BIS on Steel products
INSDAG participated in MTD 4 meeting of BIS on Steel products (flat & long ) during 14-15
September 2015. INSDAG has been included in the committee for revision of various relevant codes
